Jeremy M. Shefner, MD, PhD
Dr. Shefner is Professor and Chair of Neurology and Associate Vice President for
Clinical and Translational Research at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He received
his PhD in Experimental Psychology from the University of Illinois, and his MD with
Distinction from Northwestern University. Following residency and fellowship training
at the Harvard Longwood Neurological Training Program, he joined the faculty at
the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He moved to Upstate
Medical University in 1996. With Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, Dr. Shefner is co-chair of
the Northeast ALS Clinical Trials Consortium, and has held leadership positions
in many multicenter ALS trials. He also has had a long interest in outcomes measures
in clinical ALS trials, specifically physiological measures of motor unit loss in
patients and animal models of ALS.
